About Elucidate

Elucidate Education is a not-for-profit organisation with a mission of ensuring that every Australian student has the support they need to achieve. We achieve this through providing a free learning platform and equitable textbooks to support students throughout their learning journey.

With over 23,000 Australian users, four published textbooks, and a team of over 50 volunteers across Perth and Melbourne, Elucidate is one of the fastest growing volunteer run organisations in Australia.

With recent funding support from the University of Melbourne, Masonic Foundation, Rotary Club of Subiaco and Rotary Club of West Perth, and other funders, we have an exciting opportunity for a General Manager to lead WA operations. 

Elucidate has identified the need for an operational manager to lead and grow the day-to-day operations of the Perth team and provide leadership support to the organisation. 

Roles and Responsibilities Matrix

Create (10%)

  • Support meetings with the Teacher Advisory Board (“TAB”) in Western Australia to define key areas of improvement and feedback to relay to the Chief Online Officer and Chief Product Officer. 

  • Lead user surveys to gather feedback and relay improvement opportunities to the team.

Manage (50%)

  • Oversee day-to-day WA operations of Elucidate and provide solutions to current operational issues.

  • Deliver a coordinated planned schedule of events and activities with assigned roles, for each volunteer writing period. 

  • Lead fortnightly leadership team meetings.

  • Conduct regular check-ins with the Chief Product Officer and Chief Online Officer to ensure content operations are running smoothly.

  • Developing processes, policies and procedures and improvements to define key workflows including but not limited to:

    • Recruitment

    • Onboarding

    • Promoting volunteers

    • Volunteer Donation Drive / Regional Engagement

    • Risk management

  • Providing opportunities to develop talented junior volunteers to leadership roles

  • Conducting risk assessments of medium/high risk activities

  • Coordinating the WA budget, including attending a monthly finance call with the Chief Executive Officer

Promote (15%)

  • Work with the Chief Community Officer to define the key external and internal  schedule of events. 

  • Promote Elucidate at key events including school presentations and conferences. 

  • Deliver the short weekly internal email / Discord to WA teams during writing periods

Fund (25%)

  • Support to formal proposals for grant applications in Western Australia at the request of the CEO

  • Where required to reach out to prospective donors and liaise with existing donors at the request of the CEO. 

About You

  • Leadership: Experience in leading groups of volunteer teams and working directly with team members to achieve outcomes.

  • Time Management: Strong ability to manage a variety of tasks and meet deadlines or openly communicate changes to schedules.

  • Project Management: Understanding of basic project management and ability to coordinate with the team to communicate project schedules. 

  • Process Improvement: An ability to identify and coordinate with the team on how to do our existing activities better and gain buy-in from the team.

  • Alignment to Cause: Understanding of Elucidate’s mission, values and volunteer proposition.

  • Open Communication: Ability to raise issues openly with the team and with direct reports / CEO / Board. 

Key Performance Indicators

  • Team Feedback: Based on volunteer survey scores after the end of each writing period.

  • Management Feedback: Based on feedback from direct reports and reporting. 

  • Improvement in Processes: Number of key processes defined in the organisation.

  • Marketing: Number of internal emails sent and marketing content executed.

  • Funding: Revenue brought in from WA grants with direct interaction.
