Phylogenetic Trees

Human Biology (Year 12) - Other Evidence for Evolution

What are phylogenetic trees?

Phylogenetic trees represent the evolutionary relationships between several organisms, which have all been derived from a common ancestor.

The ancestral organisms are the foundation of any phylogenetic tree and are found at the base. The organisms which arise from the ancestors are branches, where nodes represent the divergences. The distances of organisms demonstrate relationships.
